PAVING THE WAY FROM EDUCATION TO EMPLOYMENT
Bali Children Foundation helps thousands of children to complete school, to find employment, and to improve their lives and the life of their community
Starting in 2002, BCF has worked one village at a time to help poor, remote or disaster impacted villages. After identifying a village with disadvantaged families, our local staff members work together with the village leaders to introduce families to BCF and the opportunities our scholarships and curriculum provide.
In areas of disaster, such as in the village of Songan, which suffered severe landslides at the beginning of 2017, or in Lombok
with the devastating earthquakes in August of 2018, BCF moves in to assist after disaster responses are finalised. BCF facilitates funds for our partner charities, who deliver health and dental care, disability management and environmental protection solutions during disasters, and afterwards BCF awards Scholarships, English as a Foreign Language, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), Calistung (Remedial reading, writing and numeracy), and tertiary education opportunities.
our achievements in 2023
EDUCATING FUTURE LEADERS
While Indonesia has experienced steady economic growth in recent years and achieved substantial development progress, development across the entire country is unbalanced and inequality remains a pressing challenge for the government. More than 72 million people in Indonesia continue to live under the World Bank’s $3.20 per day poverty line.
When viewed from this perspective, our work in Bali and nearby islands becomes even more important, providing educational dividends for Indonesia’s futures leaders. Sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Indonesia benefits Australia and contributes to regional growth and stability.

MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT THROUGH EDUCATION
EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
Our innovative tablets & Apps program is designed to enhance their reading, writing, and counting skills, opening doors to a world of knowledge and opportunity. Through the use of digital tools and resources, we empower students to excel academically and thrive in the digital age. Imagine the impact when a child becomes the Changemaker of their family, igniting a ripple effect that is immeasurable. By introducing EdTech, we are not only transforming the lives of these young learners but also empowering them to make a positive change in their communities.
TRADES APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
In post covid Bali we have hundreds of Bali Children Foundation graduates underemployed or unemployed.
These recent graduates been held back - living way up in the mountains in challenging living conditions, lacking social skills due to isolation and lockdowns, their education was pretty much non-existent during Covid, their social economic situation worsened (if that's possible) and these students just need a leg up!
ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (EFL)
Bali Children Foundation delivers a student-centric English program for Grades 4 through 12. Our classes emphasise spoken and listening English which are essential skills for future employment in Bali. The BCF curriculum is enhanced with videos and presented via a 55-inch smart TV or projector. The engaging technology includes native speaker's conversing in English, and for Elementary students, fun English songs and games. EFL classes provide students with consistent curriculum standards regardless of the school's remote location.
STEM - SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATH
Environmental Studies have been introduced into the curriculum over the recent years beginning with the islands of Nusa Lembongan. Here it has been vital to build awareness among the children, who will inherit this island, about the challenges they face. In other areas, especially ‘rain shadow’ districts with unreliable water supply, hygiene and health messages enter the curriculum.
UNI READY / WORK READY / TEACHER AND APPRENTICESHIP
In post covid Bali we have hundreds of Bali Children Foundation students underemployed or unemployed. To provide pathways to employment, the charity in conjunction with business is developing a variety of academic, applied science and apprenticeship scholarships.
In Tertiary Education Sponsorship program, we provide these programs for our high school graduated students: Uni Ready/Hospitality Ready/Apprenticeship Ready/Work Ready program, Tertiary Applied Sciences Scholarship, and University Scholarship.
READ TO LEARN
While Indonesians are excellent oral storytellers, they rarely read for leisure. Lack of reading skills affects children's access to learning. As students move into High School and Tertiary learning, the issue becomes acute. Whether seeking information from books or the internet, strong reading skills are vital life skills. BCF uses the newly renovated library spaces to deliver story reading to the younger children and leisure reading resources for the older Elementary school grades. We hope this early emphasis on fun reading will set students up for lifelong learning.
TEACHER TRAINING
BCF employs and trains teachers via a unique training program, enabling teachers to develop skills and become better practitioners. The curriculum is tailored to the region, cultural sensitivities and issues pertinent to that specific location.
COLLEGE-READY AND WORK-READY PREPARATION
As Education to Employment is our mission, preparation for graduate student's Tertiary education and working life is key to what we deliver. Preparation for further education starts during High School as students learn about available courses of tertiary study, scholarships and apprenticeships. Once students graduate Year 12, they have the option to join orientation classes before commencing academic University degrees, Diploma courses, Hospitality courses, Apprenticeships, Internships or seeking employment. The programs include CV and interview skills, self-confidence, grooming, jobseeker skills and online opportunities, English language, financial literacy and adjustment from Secondary school to University or the workplace. It is an annual program, offered in three streams of 8 weeks of learning for Academic University, Hospitality College and Apprentice, Internship & Work.
