PAVING THE WAY FROM EDUCATION TO EMPLOYMENT

Bali Children Foundation helps thousands of children to complete school, to find employment, and to improve their lives and the life of their community

Starting in 2002, BCF has worked one village at a time to help a total of 76 villages. After identifying a village with disadvantaged families, our local staff members work together with the village leaders to introduce families to BCF and the opportunities our scholarships and curriculum provide.

In areas of disaster, such as in the village of Songan, which suffered severe landslides at the beginning of 2017, or in Lombok with the devastating earthquakes in August of 2018, BCF moves in to assist after disaster responses are finalised. BCF facilitates funds for our partner charities, who deliver health and dental care, disability management and environmental protection solutions during disasters, and afterwards BCF awards scholarships, English, computer programs, and ongoing education opportunities.

EDUCATING FUTURE LEADERS

While Indonesia has experienced steady economic growth in recent years and achieved substantial development progress, development across the entire country is unbalanced and inequality remains a pressing challenge for the government. More than 72 million people in Indonesia continue to live under the World Bank’s $3.20 per day poverty line.

When viewed from this perspective, our work in Bali and nearby islands becomes even more important, providing educational dividends for Indonesia’s futures leaders. Sustainable and inclusive economic growth in Indonesia benefits Australia and contributes to regional growth and stability.

MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT THROUGH EDUCATION

ENGLISH CLASSES

BCF delivers a student-centric English program. Our classes emphasise spoken and listening English which are important skills for future employment in Bali. The BCF curriculum is enhanced with videos and presented to the students via a 55 inch smart TV. This exciting use of technology provides students with previously undreamed of opportunities.

ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

Environmental Studies have been introduced into the curriculum over the recent years beginning with the islands of Nusa Lembongan. Here it has been vital to build awareness among the children, who will inherit this island, about the challenges they face. In other areas, especially ‘rain shadow’ districts with unreliable water supply, hygiene and health messages enter the curriculum.

STEM

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning for Grades 4 to 6 students, currently on trial in four remote Bali schools, is another step towards providing employable skills for Bali's disadvantaged children. The curriculum moves through a number of math and engineering problems and finishes with the children building a turbo to run LED lighting in their 'houses'. Math, proportions, area and scale are introduced as practical exercises.

COMPUTER LITERACY

BCF has connected some of the poorest remote areas in Bali with the rest of the world via Internet, equipped classes with computer rooms, and enabled a generation of students to develop vital computer literacy. In 2019 the computer curriculum was expanded to cover business and entrepreneurial topics as further preparation for a student’s successful future.

TEACHER TRAINING

BCF employs and trains teachers via a unique training program, enabling teachers to develop skills and become better teacher practitioners. Curriculum are tailored to region, cultural sensitivities and issues pertinent to that specific location.

Work Ready – College Ready

For all BCF Year 12 students. This program includes learning about intended courses of tertiary study, scholarships, CV and interview skills, job seeker skills and on-line opportunities,  English language, financial literacy and adjustment from Secondary school to University or the work place. It is an annual program which splits at the end into three streams over 8 weeks. Academic University, Hospitality College and Work.

SUPPORT US

There are many ways to make an impact through Bali Children Foundation, from individuals purchasing English dictionaries or providing scholarships through sponsorships. Donations and fundraising are our core income stream and without them we would not be able to do the work we do.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

From as little as $50 you could be providing English & Environmental lessons for a deeply disadvantaged child for a whole year in a vulnerable community in Bali or surrounding islands.

With valuable English skills you can help to break the cycle of poverty in these communities. All donations to our Australian Everyday Hero platform are tax deductible for Australian residents.

SPONSOR A CHILD

From individuals sponsoring just one child through to organisations sponsoring a whole village, scholarships are provided for the most deeply disadvantaged in our remote communities, ranging from elementary school students up to tertiary education scholarships.

Bali Hope Challenge

On 30th May 2020, 22 runners from 7 countries were due to take on the Bali Hope Ultra: an overnight coast-to-coast double marathon to support education for disadvantaged families in Bali.

Due to the COVID crisis, the event was postponed, which creates the opportunity for YOU to help in these critical times. BCF’s work in Bali, where 80% of the economy has closed down and thousands of families have lost their sole source of income, is now more important than ever.

We’d love you to JOIN OUR MISSION with our 2020 Bali Hope Ultra team by taking ON THE CHALLENGE with a SWIM, RUN, WALK or another personal challenge with 100% of funds going directly to Bali Children Foundation.

Register for as little as AU$25 / US$16 donation, and join us to help support Balinese children!
